A reader should be able to locate your work history, qualifications, and contact details without untangling the layout. That is a practical design goal. It does not require a claim that clutter triggers a particular neurological response or automatically causes rejection.
Editorial correction, September 22, 2026: this article previously applied broad psychology claims to hiring without supporting evidence. We have replaced them with document-review guidance. Guul has not measured a causal relationship between these formatting choices and hiring decisions.
Group information that belongs together
Keep an employer, job title, location if relevant, and dates in one recognizable entry. Separate that entry from the next role. Use consistent date formats and headings so comparisons are straightforward.
White space can separate sections. Its useful amount depends on the content, font, and page size. Do not shrink the text until it is difficult to read simply to hit a page count.
Same story. A little more breathing room.

Everything is asking for attention.
Closely packed headings and text leave fewer visual signposts. Try the other treatment.
Edit for a clear purpose
Give each bullet one main point. Explain what you did, the context, and a result you can support. Remove repeated statements. Keep administrative, service, and coordination work when it demonstrates a requirement of the target role; it does not need to be renamed as strategy to matter.
There is no mandatory number of bullets that proves competence. Use the space needed to show relevant evidence without repeating yourself.

Review before and after export
At normal zoom, can you find the latest role and the relevant qualifications? Do dates remain next to the correct role? Is the smallest text still readable? Check the PDF as well as the editor because the exported file is what the recipient receives.
Ask a reader to point out anything ambiguous. Revise those parts and repeat the check. Their feedback is useful for this document; it is not a controlled prediction of recruiter behavior.
