A school hiring a teacher reads a resume with four questions in mind. What subject can you teach? Which classes? Under which board? Are you qualified for the post? Most teacher resumes answer these slowly, buried under an "Objective" paragraph and a list of hobbies.
This guide shows how to answer all four quickly, and how to present your B.Ed or D.El.Ed, CTET or state TET status, teaching practice and results you can back up. It is written for private and aided school applications. For government recruitment, the application form and the official notice decide what you submit and whether you are eligible, so read the notice itself.
The short answer
- Headline: name the post and subject, for example "TGT English" or "PRT, all subjects".
- Qualification status: write CTET or state TET with the paper, the level and the year, exactly as your certificate shows.
- Each teaching role: subjects, classes, board, and number of sections or periods a week.
- Results: one or two per role, only numbers the school records can confirm.
- Freshers: list B.Ed or D.El.Ed teaching practice as experience, with the school's name and the classes you taught.
- Length: one page for freshers, two at most for experienced teachers, on A4.
Many schools hire through a principal reading a printed or emailed copy, not screening software. Write for that person.
Write your qualification status exactly
Qualifications are often written vaguely, yet a school checks them most carefully. Give each its own line.
B.Ed or D.El.Ed. Write the full name, the institution, the university or board, the year, and the score with its scale: "B.Ed, XYZ College of Education (ABC University), 2025, 78.2%". If your result is awaited, say so: "B.Ed, 2026 (result awaited)".
CTET. The test is conducted by CBSE (CTET official site). It has two papers. Paper I is for Classes I to V and Paper II is for Classes VI to VIII (CTET FAQ). So "CTET qualified" alone leaves the reader guessing. Write "CTET Paper II (Classes VI–VIII), Social Studies, qualified, December 2024". If you cleared both papers, list both.
State TET. Use the name your state uses, the paper or level, and the year. Do not translate it into a CTET equivalent.
Not yet qualified? Say what is true: "CTET Paper I, appearing in the next cycle" or simply leave the line out. Never write "qualified" for an exam whose result has not been declared.
The same FAQ says CTET certificates and mark sheets are available on DigiLocker. Keep yours ready, because a school may ask to see it before an interview. Whether your certificate makes you eligible for a particular post is a question for that post's notice, not for your resume.
Teaching practice counts as experience for freshers
If you are a fresher, your B.Ed or D.El.Ed internship is your work experience. Treat it like a job entry, not a single line under education.
Include the school and city, the months, the classes, subjects and board, and how many lessons you delivered if your practice file records it. Add one thing beyond lessons, such as a unit test you prepared or an exhibition you helped run.
Private tuition, coaching centre work and online teaching also count. Describe them the same way: classes, subject, number of students, duration. That reads better than "passionate about teaching".
Show subjects, classes and boards in every role
For experienced teachers, the most useful change is structural. Start every job entry with a single line that holds the facts a principal is scanning for:
TGT Science, ABC Public School (CBSE), Jaipur — June 2021 to present Classes VI–VIII, 4 sections, about 30 periods a week. Class teacher of VII-B (2023–24).
Then add three or four bullets. Board experience matters because CBSE, ICSE and state boards differ in syllabus and assessment. If you have taught board classes (X or XII), say so plainly: "Taught Class X Science for two board batches (2023, 2024)."
If you have taught under more than one board, name each in the relevant role.
A worked example: one line, before and after
This is an illustrative example. Meera is a fictional TGT Mathematics teacher with three years of experience at a CBSE school.
Before: "Taught Mathematics to middle and secondary classes. Responsible for improving student results. Participated in school activities."
After:
- "Taught Mathematics to Classes VIII–X (5 sections, about 180 students) under the CBSE curriculum."
- "Class X Mathematics board results, 2025: 36 of 40 students in my section scored 60% or above, from 29 of 40 in the same section's Class IX finals (school result analysis)."
- "Ran a twice-weekly remedial group for 12 students after the half-yearly exam; set and marked the monthly unit tests for Class IX."
- "Coordinated the school's Mathematics Week, 2024, with a quiz for Classes VI–X."
The after version gives the classes, the board, the scale of the work and one result with its source. A principal could confirm every part of it with the school.
Same story. A little more breathing room.

Results you can verify, and ones to leave out
Good results for a teacher resume are ones your school keeps records of:
- board or school exam pass rates, or the share of students above a mark, for your own section
- students you prepared for an olympiad, a science fair or an inter-school competition, and how they placed
- a unit plan, question bank or activity other teachers in your department now use
- attendance or enrolment numbers for a club or remedial group you ran
Leave out anything you cannot back up, such as "improved results by 40%" with no base year. Do not name individual students or quote a single child's marks. Class-level figures make the point without sharing anyone's personal information. If a result depended on the whole department, say "our department" rather than claiming it alone.
Co-curricular work and school duties
Schools value work beyond the timetable, so list it concretely: "House mistress, Tagore House (2022–24)", "In-charge, annual day backstage, 2023", "Exam cell member, prepared seating plans for half-yearly exams", "Accompanied Class VIII on an educational trip, 40 students".
Put skills in a short line of their own: music, sport, art, a language, or the smart-class or school ERP system you used. Skip lines like "hardworking and punctual".
Where each section goes on the page
For a fresher, a sensible order is: headline and contact details, a two-line summary, teaching qualifications (CTET or TET), education (B.Ed or D.El.Ed first, then degree, then 12th and 10th), teaching practice, co-curricular work, and skills. How to write the school marks is covered in 10th, 12th marks and CGPA on a resume.
For an experienced teacher: headline, summary, teaching experience with the newest role first, qualifications and CTET or TET, education, then duties and skills.
Personal details such as date of birth or marital status are optional. Add them only if the school asks. Personal details on an Indian resume explains how to decide. If you are returning to teaching after a break, the return-to-work guide shows how to show the gap in one plain line.
Some schools ask for a Word file so they can print or forward it. Guul's resume builder uses A4 by default for India, shows percentage and CGPA labels as you enter them, and exports to both PDF and Word.

A quick check before you send it
- The headline names the post and subject in the advert.
- Every CTET or TET line shows the paper or level, the subject where relevant, and the year.
- Nothing says "qualified" for a result that is not yet declared.
- Every teaching role names the subjects, classes and board.
- Each result is class-level, dated and something the school records can confirm.
- No student names or individual marks.
- The file is A4, one or two pages, in the format the school asked for.
For a second pair of eyes, Guul's resume checker reads your file and explains each finding in plain words. Then print one copy and read it as the principal would. If the subject, classes and board are clear within ten seconds, the page is doing its job.
