Non-IT Fresher Resume for BA, BSc and BBA Graduates

Sales, operations, HR and customer success roles hire BA, BSc and BBA freshers, but most resume advice is written for engineers. Here is how to turn college activities, part-time work and small projects into evidence a recruiter can check.

THE TAKEAWAY, BEFORE THE SCROLL

Pick one role family, list the three or four things that job does every day, and give each one a line of proof from college, part-time work or a small self-made project, written with what you did, how much and what happened.

If you studied BA, BSc or BBA and you are not applying for software jobs, most fresher resume advice online does not fit you. Your real question is different: "I have a degree, some college activities and maybe a part-time job. How do I show that I can sell, organise, recruit or help customers?"

The answer is to stop writing a general resume. Choose one family of roles, find out what that job does every day, and put a line of proof next to each of those tasks. A recruiter wants to see that you have already done something close to the job, even on a small scale.

The short answer

  • Target one role family per version. Sales, operations, HR and recruitment, content, and customer success each want different evidence. One resume for all of them convinces nobody.
  • Replace qualities with actions. "Good communication skills" is a claim. "Called 40 alumni to invite them to the college fest; 15 attended" is evidence.
  • Count what you can honestly count. People, calls, forms, rupees, posts, days. Small numbers are fine. Invented numbers are not.
  • Education goes near the top, with your score and scale written clearly, because many fresher postings still check eligibility first.
  • No internship is not the end. Part-time work, family business help, NSS, event roles and a small self-made project all count, if you describe them plainly.

What each role actually looks for

Read five or six real postings for the role you want and note the tasks that repeat. The table below is a starting point, not a rule. Your postings decide.

Role family Tasks you will see in postings Evidence a fresher often already has
Sales, including banking and insurance sales Talking to strangers, following up, meeting targets, keeping records of leads Selling fest passes or sponsorships, part-time retail, helping in a family shop, fundraising
Operations and back office Tracking data, following a process, spotting errors, meeting deadlines Managing registrations for an event, keeping stock or accounts for a club, spreadsheet coursework
HR and recruitment trainee Screening, scheduling, coordinating people, keeping records confidential Organising interviews for a society, volunteer coordination, placement cell work
Content and communications Writing for an audience, editing, meeting publishing dates College magazine, club social media, a blog or newsletter you ran
Customer success and support Explaining clearly, solving problems, staying calm, logging issues Help desk at events, tutoring, part-time front-desk or delivery-partner support work

Some banking and insurance sales roles need a licence or a qualifying exam. Read the posting and ask the employer what applies. Do not write that you hold a licence or certificate you have not completed.

Turn college activities into evidence

Every activity can become a resume line if you answer three questions. What did you do? How much of it? What happened because of it? Use a strong verb at the start, a number in the middle and a result at the end.

Illustrative example (fictional person). Sneha is a BA Economics graduate from a college in Lucknow. She wants a sales trainee role at a bank. Her first draft said:

  • Member of the organising committee for the annual fest.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Worked part-time at a clothing store.

Nothing here is false, but nothing is proof. She rewrote the same facts:

  • Sponsorship lead, annual college fest (2025). Pitched to 22 local businesses in person and over phone; closed 6 sponsorships worth ₹48,000 in total.
  • Sales associate (part-time), clothing store, Lucknow (Jun 2024 – Mar 2025, weekends). Handled walk-in customers and billing; helped set up the festive-season display; kept the daily stock register for one section.
  • NSS volunteer (2023–2025). Went door to door in two wards for a voter-awareness drive; recorded responses on paper forms and entered them into a shared spreadsheet.

The skills line disappeared because the entries now show it. The numbers are ones she could explain in an interview. Where she had no number, she described the task exactly instead of inventing one.

A few rules for your own lines:

  • Name your real role. "Volunteer", "member", "coordinator". Do not upgrade a volunteer role to "head" on paper.
  • Say whose number it is. If the team raised ₹48,000 and you brought in part of it, say "part of a four-person team that raised".
  • Keep it to one or two lines per entry. A fresher resume is one page.
DON’T JUST READ IT. PLAY WITH IT.

If you have no internship

Many BA, BSc and BBA students never get a formal internship. What hurts is an empty page, not a missing internship. Here is what you can put there instead.

Part-time and informal work. Tuition classes you took, a family shop or farm business you helped run, delivery or event work, data entry for a local office. Write it as work, with dates and what you did.

A small project you set up yourself. Pick something close to your target role and finish it in two or three weeks. For operations, clean up a messy public dataset in a spreadsheet and write one page on what you found. For content, publish four articles on one topic. For recruitment, write three sample job descriptions and a screening checklist for a role you understand. Put it under a "Projects" heading and say plainly that it was self-directed.

Apprenticeships. The government's National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal lists apprenticeship openings for graduates across many subjects, not only engineering. An apprenticeship is paid, structured work experience you can list under Experience with its real title. Read each notice for eligibility, as it varies.

Short courses, only if relevant. A course on spreadsheets, sales or HR basics can help, but only if you can show what you learnt. "Completed a spreadsheet course and used it to track registrations for 300 fest participants" is better than a list of ten certificates.

Be careful with listings that ask you to pay a fee to apply or to "confirm" a job. Check the company on its own website before you share documents.

A one-page layout for a non-IT fresher

Keep it to one A4 page in a simple, single-column layout. Use standard headings so both people and software can find each part.

  1. Name and contact details. Phone, email, city. A LinkedIn link if your profile is complete. Personal details such as date of birth are optional; see what personal details to put on an Indian resume.
  2. Two-line summary. The role you want and your two strongest pieces of proof. Example: "BA Economics graduate seeking a sales trainee role. Closed six fest sponsorships and worked ten months in retail billing."
  3. Education. Degree, college, year and score with its scale, then 12th and 10th. See how to write 10th, 12th marks and CGPA.
  4. Experience. Part-time jobs, apprenticeships and any internship, newest first.
  5. Projects and activities. Your rewritten college and self-made entries.
  6. Skills and languages. Tools you can actually use, such as spreadsheets, and the languages you speak and write. Some sales and support postings ask for a regional language, so list yours honestly.

If a college placement cell or an employer gives you a fixed format, use their format.

Before you send it

  • One role family per resume version, with its name in the summary.
  • Every activity starts with a verb and has either a number or a precise task.
  • Every number is one you can explain in an interview.
  • Roles, dates and scores match your certificates and marksheets.
  • No skills list of qualities without proof somewhere on the page.
  • One page, single column, standard headings, saved as PDF unless the posting asks for Word.

Once you have a draft, you can build it in Guul on an A4 page and tailor a copy to a specific job posting, so the tasks in the posting and the proof on your page line up. The resume checker explains each finding in plain words and shows what it extracted, so you can see if a date or heading landed in the wrong place. For more on how screening software reads fresher resumes, see fresher resume ATS notes for India.

Start with the role you most want this month. Write five lines of proof for it. That page will do more for you than a general resume sent to fifty openings.
