A production-runner application needs to show what you can help with on this particular job. You do not need to make a first application sound like an established producer’s career. Start with the duties in the vacancy and select real evidence of organisation, communication and dependable follow-through.
This guide is for UK screen-industry applications. The ScreenSkills production-runner profile describes office support, distributing paperwork, handling purchases and communicating with the production team. The actual vacancy decides the work you are applying to do.
Read the role before choosing the example
Check whether the opening is mainly office work, set support or another department’s runner role. Put your evidence beside each requirement. Leave a gap where you have none; it identifies a question or training need.
| The opening asks about | Look for evidence in your history | Check before including it |
|---|---|---|
| Organising changing tasks | Events, a student shoot or administration | Your responsibility, not the whole team’s |
| Clear communication | A handover, service job or group project | What you communicated and to whom |
| Documents or purchases | Records, receipts or an office task | Permission to discuss the details |
| Working hours or travel | Your actual availability and transport | What you can commit to for this job |
These are writing prompts, not selection rules. Do not imply that a driving licence, particular equipment or unrestricted availability is required for every job.
Make a small credits and experience list
For each relevant production, record the title you may share, your role, dates and whether it was paid work, volunteering or a student project. For other jobs, explain the relevant responsibility without pretending it happened on a set.
Could you explain each bullet in an interview? Does the wording distinguish helping from leading? If you cannot verify a headcount, budget or result, describe the work without that number. Do not attach private call sheets, scripts or crew contacts as evidence.
For general conventions, use the UK CV guide. Keep this application focused on the production’s duties rather than copying a generic skills list.

Everything is asking for attention.
Closely packed headings and text leave fewer visual signposts. Try the other treatment.
Write the cover email for this production
ScreenSkills’ application advice recommends a brief, tailored approach. Give the role you want, one relevant reason to consider you and a clear next step. Follow the advertised submission method.
Inspect the production assistant letter example, then replace its fictional credits with your own. If the vacancy asks for editorial research or producing responsibilities, inspect the assistant producer example instead. Similar titles do not make those jobs interchangeable.
Inspect the CV and cover email together
Compare titles, dates and availability. Confirm the recipient and remove previous employer names from reused wording. Open the actual attachment and check its contact details and permitted portfolio links.
The interactive samples below demonstrate layout using fictional experience, not credentials to copy. Use the PDF text check to inspect reading order, then review any fields filled by the employer’s system.
