This guide is written in English for people applying to jobs in Germany. That does not mean an English CV is accepted for every job. Start with the employer’s language, document and submission requirements. Ask the recruiter if an important requirement is unclear.
The German government’s Make it in Germany application guide describes CVs, cover letters and supporting certificates, commonly submitted online or by email. The actual vacancy decides which files to send.
Make a document checklist from the vacancy
Distinguish the CV from certificates, references and the cover letter. Do not upload extra personal documents simply because a generic checklist mentions them.
| Decision | What to verify | Your preparation step |
|---|---|---|
| Language | The advert or recruiter’s instruction | Draft consistently in that language |
| CV | Requested format and relevant experience | Preserve titles, dates and qualifications |
| Cover letter | Whether and how it is requested | Explain your fit for this role |
| Certificates | Which documents are requested | Check readability and translation requirements |
| Upload | Type, size and separate or combined files | Follow the actual form’s controls |
Do not infer language requirements from the country alone. A translation should preserve meaning. Do not describe a qualification as equivalent to a German credential unless you have a basis for that statement.
Prepare a CV that preserves your qualifications
Make it in Germany recommends listing work and education with recent entries first and identifying language ability clearly. Use a structure in which those details are easy to find. Preserve official qualification names and explain unfamiliar abbreviations where useful.
Keep self-assessed language ability distinct from a certificate. Do not turn conversational ability into professional fluency through an automated rewrite. Be ready to explain the basis for any proficiency level you state.
Inspect the chronological template for layout. The German-language builder comparison answers the separate question of choosing a tool. Neither establishes an employer’s requirements.

Everything is asking for attention.
Closely packed headings and text leave fewer visual signposts. Try the other treatment.
Treat photographs and certificates as explicit decisions
The government guide notes that photograph expectations vary by industry. That is not a rule that every applicant must include one. Consider the vacancy and your own choice before adding personal material.
Check that requested certificates are legible and any translation meets the recipient’s instructions. A translated CV is not a certified translation of a certificate. Guul’s writing tools do not establish qualification recognition or immigration eligibility.
Inspect the complete application package
Open each final file. Compare your name, dates, qualification status and titles across the CV, letter and form. Use identifiable filenames and confirm that every attachment is the requested version.
Use the PDF text check to inspect extracted text, then review the employer’s form fields yourself. A readable PDF does not guarantee correct autofill or an interview.
