Teacher Resume Example for Indian Schools

A school principal in India reads a teacher's resume for a handful of facts: the post you want, the subjects and classes you have taught, the board, and whether your B.Ed and CTET or state TET status fits the vacancy. This example shows a Trained Graduate Teacher with six years in CBSE schools who is applying for a PGT Chemistry post. The schools are fictional, and every number is modest and the kind a school's own records could confirm. Replace all of it with your own.

Practical writing guidance

  1. 1

Put the post and subject in your headline, such as "TGT Science" or "PGT Chemistry", so the principal sees the match at once

  2. 2

Write CTET with its paper, the classes it covers, the subject and the year, exactly as the certificate shows

  3. 3

For every school, give the board, the classes and sections you taught, and your periods per week

  4. 4

Quote only results the school can confirm, such as your own sections' Class X board pass figures

  5. 5

Give class teacher, exam and house duties one line each; schools weigh them when choosing between similar candidates

  6. 6

Freshers should list B.Ed teaching practice as experience, with the school, the classes and the number of lessons

How to write a school teacher (TGT/PGT) resume

01

Lead with the post, the subject and the board

Indian schools advertise by post and subject: PRT for the primary classes, TGT for the middle and secondary classes, PGT for Classes XI and XII. Put the post and subject you are applying for at the top, in the same words as the advertisement, and make sure your experience shows the classes that post covers. Under every school, name the board in brackets beside the school, then give the classes, the number of sections and your periods per week. A principal comparing candidates can then see in seconds that you have taught Class X Science under CBSE, rather than having to guess from a job title that says only "Teacher".
02

Write qualifications so they can be checked against certificates

Give each degree its own line with the university or college, the year and the score on its scale, such as "B.Ed — 78%". Write CTET or your state's TET with the paper, the classes it covers, the subject and the year you qualified. Do not translate a state TET into a CTET equivalent, and do not claim a result that has not been declared. If you are applying for a PGT post, your postgraduate degree in the subject matters most, so keep it prominent. Whether your qualifications meet a particular vacancy is decided by that school's or board's notice, so read it before you apply and leave the eligibility judgement to them.
03

Choose results a school's own records would confirm

Useful results are the ones a principal could verify from registers: your sections' board pass figures, the number of students who improved after remedial classes, an exhibition project that reached district level. Keep them small and specific. "All 78 students in my two sections passed Science" is more believable than a claim that you transformed the school's results. Leave out figures you did not measure yourself, such as whole-school pass rates you only contributed to. Duties count too. Class teacher work, exam duty, question paper setting and house activities each deserve one line, because schools need teachers who handle more than their own periods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should a teacher resume in India mention the board?

Yes. Name the board for every school, such as CBSE, ICSE or your state board, because the syllabus and the examinations differ. A principal filling a post in a CBSE school looks for CBSE classes first.

How do I write CTET on my resume?

Give the paper, the classes it covers, the subject and the year you qualified, as your certificate shows. If the result is not out yet, write that you are appearing or leave the line out; never write qualified in advance.

Can a B.Ed fresher apply with only teaching practice?

Yes. Make the B.Ed internship your first experience entry, with the school, the classes, the subject and the number of lessons you taught. Add private tuition or coaching centre work in the same way.

Should I include my salary on a teacher resume?

No. Current and expected salary belong in the application form or the interview. Use the resume for posts, classes, qualifications and results.

What length suits a teacher resume?

One A4 page for freshers and teachers with a few years in one school. Two pages at most when you have several schools, board classes and additional duties to show.
