Dear [Hiring manager's name],
By the third week of an 8-week season, most cabins have settled into whatever culture got established in the first few days, good or bad. Mine has stayed steady for two summers running: 14 campers ages 11 to 13 at Pinewood Summer Camp, zero reportable safety incidents either year, because I set expectations early and hold them all the way to closing day.
Last season 60 percent of returning families asked for me by name, the highest rate among 18 counselors on staff, and I talked two homesick campers through to full session completion instead of an early pickup. I also trained 3 first-year counselors on behavior management and safety protocol, and I run our waterfront and canoe block for groups of up to 20 as the cabin's certified lifeguard backup.
CPR and First Aid, Lifeguard Training, and Wilderness First Aid certifications back up the age-appropriate planning I'm building toward in my Elementary Education degree at SUNY Plattsburgh, so a session for 8-year-olds and one for 13-year-olds never look the same. Two seasons at Birchwood Day Camp leading archery and outdoor skills earned a camper satisfaction rating of 4.8 out of 5 before I ever set foot at Pinewood.
A pre-season training weekend, a reference check, or a sit-down interview, however [Camp name] usually starts the hiring process works for me, and I can move quickly once you're ready.
Best regards,
Taylor Walker
