Dear [Hiring manager's name],
During sixty hours of classroom observation this year, I built a fractions lesson using pattern-block manipulatives that raised our practicum second-graders' quiz scores from an average of 68% to 84% on the retest, and that lesson is why I want a student teaching placement where I can keep building units like it under a mentor teacher.
In that same practicum classroom, I ran small-group guided reading three mornings a week for six struggling readers, tracked their running records myself, and adjusted grouping every two weeks based on what the data actually showed instead of my first guess. My cooperating teacher trusted me to lead the full math block solo by the semester's final month.
I'm working toward my elementary certification with an emphasis in early literacy, I'm conversational in Spanish, which several families in my practicum classroom used at drop-off and pickup, and I hold current CPR and First Aid certification. I take feedback on a lesson plan without getting defensive about it, which I think matters as much as the plan itself.
I'm available for a full-semester placement starting next term and flexible on grade level. I'd welcome the chance to talk with [School name] about which classroom and mentor teacher might be the right fit.
Sincerely,
Jordan Martinez
