Studio Director
[Studio name]
[City, State]

Dear [Hiring manager's name],

I direct and shoot 65-plus branded and commercial productions a year for 20 retained agency and corporate clients, maintaining a 100% on-schedule delivery record across multi-day shoots with production budgets up to $85,000. I'm applying for the videographer role at [Studio name] because your reel shows the same mix of polished brand work and live event coverage I already run crews for every month.

I added FAA Part 107-certified drone and gimbal coverage as an in-house capability the studio previously subcontracted, which now supports more than 40 aerial and moving shots a year, and I lead on-location crews of up to eight people on shoots that used to require an outside production company. I scout and secure permits for more than 25 locations annually.

I capture live multi-camera coverage for 30-plus corporate events a year, delivering synced and logged footage to editors within 24 hours of wrap, and I manage field audio personally with zero re-shoots for audio failure across more than 100 interview setups. I build shot lists and storyboards with clients before every shoot to cut on-set revision requests.

I would welcome the chance to bring that in-house drone and multi-cam capability to [Studio name]'s next production and to talk through your current client calendar. I can share sample footage and my location-scouting notes. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Reese Walker

Why this letter works

  1. Paragraph 1

States annual production count and a delivery record

Studio directors hiring a videographer want proof of both volume and reliability. Naming the annual shoot count next to a 100% on-schedule record proves this candidate already runs at commercial production pace without missing a deadline.

  2. Paragraph 2

Shows a capability the studio can now sell in-house

Bringing drone coverage in-house instead of subcontracting it is a direct cost and scheduling win a studio director can act on immediately, which is a stronger pitch than simply listing drone certification as a skill.

  3. Paragraph 3

Names a zero-failure audio record across many setups

A specific interview-setup count with zero audio-related re-shoots is a concrete reliability claim a studio can verify against past projects, which matters because audio failure is one of the costliest on-set mistakes to recover from.

Questions about videographer cover letters

Should a videographer cover letter mention editing software?

Only briefly, and only if the role expects you to both shoot and edit. A cover letter for a production-focused opening should stay centered on camera work, lighting, and crew leadership so it doesn't read as an editor's pitch for a shooter's job.

How long should a videographer cover letter be?

Three short paragraphs is plenty: what drew you to this studio's work, the shoot volume and evidence that back up your reliability, and a direct request for a conversation or reel review. Producers skim fast between bookings.

Is it okay to mention gear I don't personally own?

Yes, but say so plainly. Note the camera and grip systems you're proficient operating even if a production company supplies them, and keep owned gear listed separately so equipment expectations are clear before the shoot day.
