Promotions and concurrent roles need clear explanations. CareerOneStop recommends including job titles, employers and dates in work history. That supports separating the facts for each role; it does not establish one layout that every parser always interprets correctly.
Show what changed
For each promotion, provide the actual title, date range and relevant responsibilities. You can group roles under one employer or repeat the employer with each role. Choose the presentation that remains clear in your document and any imported application fields.
Explain overlapping work honestly
Keep the real dates for concurrent, part-time, contract or volunteer roles. Add a brief label when it explains the overlap. Do not change dates to create an artificial sequence or count simultaneous roles as extra calendar years.
Inspect the captured history
Check that each title is associated with the correct employer and dates. If the form merges roles, correct the fields where possible and try a clearer layout for the next application. No external preview guarantees the employer will calculate tenure the same way.
- Use the title actually held
- Give each role accurate dates
- Explain concurrent or part-time work where relevant
- Review imported roles and date ranges
