Dear [Hiring manager's name],
I'm in the final year of my associate degree nursing program, working 20 hours a week as a certified nursing assistant on a 40-bed telemetry floor while I finish my clinical rotations in obstetrics and pediatrics this semester. I'm applying for the student nurse tech position at [Hospital name] because I want my part-time hours to build toward the same unit I hope to work on after I pass the NCLEX.
I've kept a 3.7 GPA through five semesters while carrying that CNA schedule, and last month I was the one who noticed a post-op patient's dressing had saturated faster than expected between rounds, which got the nurse to the bedside ten minutes sooner than the next scheduled check. I volunteer twice a month at a free clinic taking vitals and rooming patients for a physician who sees walk-ins only.
I hold current CNA certification, BLS, and I'm comfortable with vitals, blood glucose checks, safe patient handling and basic wound care under a nurse's direction. I write down anything I'm unsure about and ask before I act rather than guessing, which is the habit my current charge nurse has commented on most in my written evaluations.
I'd welcome the chance to talk about which units are taking student nurse techs this term and what a typical shift involves at [Hospital name]. Thank you for considering someone still partway through school.
Thank you,
Taylor Davis
