An MBA resume should show how you investigated a business problem and contributed to a decision. A recent graduate may have internships, live projects, competitions and previous employment to draw on. For applications in India, select evidence for the specific specialisation and role. An MBA qualification by itself does not establish people-management experience or responsibility for business results.
| Application need | Useful evidence | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | Research method, audience and a supported finding | Attributing a whole brand’s growth to an internship |
| Finance | Model purpose, assumptions and a check of the output | Invented investment returns or client mandates |
| HR or operations | Your part in a supervised process and its deliverable | Claiming authority over decisions made by a supervisor |
Distinguish fresher from career changer
If you worked before your MBA, retain the actual job titles and employment dates. A move into a new function does not erase that experience. If the degree is your first step into employment, give internships and practical assignments enough space to show how you work. Do not borrow senior-manager language to make a student project sound larger.
Explain what a live project actually involved
State the question, source of evidence, analysis and deliverable. Clarify whether the organisation adopted your recommendation, merely received it, or was a fictional case. A presentation is a deliverable; a revenue improvement is an outcome that needs separate evidence.
Fictional teaching example: “Compared competitor distribution channels for a course consulting project and presented a channel-selection matrix to the faculty panel.” This makes the audience and scope visible. If you worked with a real organisation, describe the approved facts without exposing its confidential strategy.
Select evidence for your specialisation
Marketing candidates might discuss customer research, campaign measurement or segmentation. Finance candidates might explain a model, assumptions and sensitivity checks. HR candidates might describe a supervised recruitment or training assignment. Operations candidates might show process observations and constraints. Only include methods you can explain in an interview; a long list of frameworks is not a substitute for applied work.
Check placement requirements before styling
Some placement processes prescribe fields and layouts. Use the current institution instructions when they apply. For independent applications, choose a readable design, prioritise recent relevant work and keep academic scores on their original scale. Avoid dense lines of committees and prizes when a project or internship better demonstrates the role requirements.
