Move Your Resume Genius Resume: A Practical Guide

Keep your original work, choose a permitted export and check the rebuilt resume before buying another download.

Published by Guul

Changing builders should give you a useful document without losing work you already own. This guide covers moving content from Resume Genius into another editing workflow, including Guul. It does not cancel an account, bypass a paid export or promise to reproduce the original design exactly.

Start here

  • Check whether you are downloading a standalone template or a document from the builder, and whether checkout starts a recurring plan.
  • Keep the original and review the new file before replacing your submission copy.

Preserve your work first

If you used a standalone template, keep that editable file and continue in your document editor if it meets your needs. If you used the builder, save an available TXT or existing document export. Paste your own text into Guul and rebuild the layout only if changing tools is useful.

Identify whether you used a template or the builder

Resume Genius offers standalone Word and Google Docs templates as well as a guided builder. If you already have an editable template file, you may be able to continue directly in that editor without migrating or purchasing another tool. Make a copy before experimenting.

For a document created in the builder, inspect the exports available to your account. The published free resume export is TXT. Do not confuse the free template library with a paid formatted builder export when deciding what you need to buy.

Preserve editable work instead of converting unnecessarily

If the source is Word, retain the original editable file even if you use a PDF or pasted text to start in Guul. A conversion can lose the structure that makes later edits easy. Reconstruct only what the new workflow needs.

Compare the summary, each work entry and qualifications with the original. Keep the actual facts unchanged, and treat suggestions from the new builder as optional wording. If your original template already satisfies the application, staying with it is a valid choice.

Review the purchase separately from the document

Separate the free template library from the paid formatted builder export. Compare the product you will actually use; calling every Resume Genius download paid would ignore the free resources.

Check whether you are downloading a standalone template or a document from the builder, and whether checkout starts a recurring plan.

Check guided suggestions against your actual experience

A guided writing workflow can produce polished bullets that need factual checking. Mark any statement whose metric, tool or responsibility you cannot verify. Resolve those questions from your own records before moving the text into a second editor. Do not let a migration turn a suggested example into a claimed achievement.

Keep a simple source document with the verified facts and a separate tailored submission. That source becomes useful for future applications even if you keep using Resume Genius. Guul is an optional place to edit that material; downloading a PDF, Word or plain-text file requires its own pass or eligible plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to move away from Resume Genius?

Choose its standalone templates if you want to edit directly in Word or Google Docs. Its guided builder may be useful when you want help choosing section wording.

What should I save before moving?

If you used a standalone template, keep that editable file and continue in your document editor if it meets your needs. If you used the builder, save an available TXT or existing document export. Paste your own text into Guul and rebuild the layout only if changing tools is useful.

Does importing cancel the previous purchase?

No. Manage billing with Resume Genius through its official account or support. A document import does not transfer, cancel or refund that purchase.
