Search results often treat “India resume” and “US resume” as fixed templates. In practice, format follows the recipient: a US private-sector posting, an India campus placement cell, a government form, or a multinational ATS portal. This checklist separates common differences so you do not paste personal biodata into a US-style application — or omit a required photo when a campus process asks for one. Guul helps you edit and export; it does not certify portals or invent country-specific competitor prices.

- Recipient instructions beat generic “India vs US” templates.
- Personal biodata fields are often inappropriate for US private-sector resumes.
- Campus processes may still require photos or prescribed forms — comply when asked.
- File readability and honest evidence matter more than decorative templates.
| If the posting is… | Prefer… | Avoid unless asked |
|---|---|---|
| US private-sector / many MNCs | 1–2 page evidence resume, no photo | DOB, marital status, parents’ names |
| India campus packet with template | Exact template + attachments | Inventing a different layout |
| Government / prescribed form | Official form fields | Substituting a designer CV |
| Open India private role | Clear EN resume; confirm photo rules | Copying biodata from an old template blindly |
Checklist: fields that often differ
**Often omitted on US private-sector resumes (unless asked):** photograph, date of birth, marital status, religion, nationality, parents’ names, passport number, blood group.
**Sometimes requested on India campus / biodata-style flows:** photograph, personal details block, longer objective statements, declared percentage/CGPA formats, signed declarations.
**Shared best practice for open formats:** clear contact email and phone, education with dates, skills aligned to the role, honest work or project evidence, PDF or DOCX as the posting requests.
Length, objective, and declaration language
US private-sector resumes for early career are often one page (sometimes two with substantial internships). India campus packets may allow or require longer CVs. Objectives are optional in many US contexts; some India templates still include them — keep them specific if used.
Never copy a declaration or signature block into an application that did not ask for it.
ATS and multinational applications
Multinationals hiring in India may still use Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, or similar families. Prefer selectable text, standard headings, and no critical data inside images. Guul’s checker explains likely parse issues across named families and publishes limits on the methodology page.
A job-description match score can help you tailor keywords for one posting. Guul focuses on explaining parse issues and offering a one-time export. Use both ideas when useful. Neither promises interviews.
Builders, suites, and fair export
India-focused career suites may bundle LinkedIn or interview tools; evaluate those extras on their merits. If your need is finishing one resume without a converting trial, compare it with Guul’s One Resume: unlimited PDF, Word and plain-text downloads of that one resume for 30 days from purchase, with no renewal. Rescue imports a draft you already wrote.
