Your free export is TXT-only: keep the draft and get a usable PDF
Several resume builders let you write for free, then offer only a plain-text (TXT) download until you start a renewing plan. That file is still useful, because it holds your words. Save it, and cancel any trial you do not want. Then, if you need a clean PDF or Word file, import the text into Guul and pay once instead of starting another auto-renewing subscription.
Save what you already wrote
- If the free tier only offers a plain-text (TXT) export, take it.
- If a free PDF exists for a specific template, grab that too, and still keep the plain text as a backup. (Resume.io’s help pages, for example, describe a free PDF with the Vancouver template.)
- You do not need a paid trial just to leave with your own writing.
- Deleting the account is not the same as canceling billing.
How to keep a TXT-only draft and export once on Guul
- 1
Download or copy the free text
Use the builder’s free TXT export if it has one. If not, select all the text on screen and copy it into a document on your device. Do this before you change billing or delete the account.
- 2
Screenshot the layout you liked
Formatting rarely survives a move. A screenshot helps you rebuild the section order and emphasis later.
- 3
Save the receipt and trial dates
Keep the welcome or trial email, the last four digits of the card, and the rough charge date, in case you still need to cancel a trial before it becomes a subscription.
- 4
Cancel the other builder if a trial is running
Importing into Guul does not cancel the other subscription. Use that builder’s official cancel steps (our cancel guides are linked below) and keep the confirmation.
- 5
Import on Guul Resume Rescue and review
Paste the TXT, or upload a PDF or Word file you are allowed to keep. Check names, employers, dates, and bullets. The layout may change.

Download with a one-time pass when ready
Buy One Resume ($4.99 USD, one time) for unlimited PDF and Word downloads of that one resume for 30 days from purchase, with no renewal. Files are never watermarked. See the pricing page for all options.
Which formats are free can change by template and country. Verify in the export menu of your own account rather than trusting a screenshot from another site.
What Guul will and will not do
Guul does not remove watermarks, get around another company’s paywall, or cancel their subscription for you. We describe each builder’s published free-export limits along with the date we checked them, and we offer a one-time download for a draft you already wrote. Free-tier options at other builders change, so check your own account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some builders only give TXT for free?
Their published free tier often keeps formatted downloads for paying users. A TXT file keeps your words so you can move them, but it is usually not formatted well enough to send to employers.
Is a TXT file enough to apply?
Usually not, since most employers expect a PDF or Word file. Keep the TXT as your master copy, then make a formatted file in a tool that sells a one-time download or a plan with clear limits.
Will Guul remove another builder’s watermark for free?
No. Paste or upload content you are allowed to keep, review it in a Guul layout, then buy Guul’s own export if you need a PDF or Word file. We do not strip another company’s branding from their files.
Does importing TXT cancel my old trial?
No. Cancel through that builder’s official steps. Guul cannot change another company’s billing.
What does Guul charge for one PDF?
Importing and editing are free. PDF and Word files for one resume need One Resume ($4.99 USD, one time), which gives unlimited PDF and Word downloads of that one resume for 30 days from purchase, with no renewal, or a qualifying plan. See the pricing page.
Already have the text? Import it free on Guul and review it. Then buy the One Resume for $4.99 USD one time (₹299 for purchases made from India). It gives unlimited PDF and Word downloads of that one resume for 30 days from purchase, with no renewal.
